Simons originally joined RB Leipzig on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, spending 18 months in the Bundesliga. In January 2025, Leipzig made the move permanent, paying a reported €50 million (£44m/$59m) to secure his long-term future. However, just months into his new deal, the German side are now seemingly prepared to cash in, especially given Chelsea’s strong interest and willingness to meet the expected valuation of around £60m ($81m).

During the 2024–25 campaign, Simons was one of Leipzig’s standout performers. In total, he scored 11 goals and contributed eight assists in 33 matches across all competitions. His ability to influence matches from wide positions, combined with a sharp eye for goal, made him one of the Bundesliga’s most dangerous attacking threats.

Simons was predominantly deployed on the left flank for Leipzig last season but is also capable of operating as a central attacking midfielder or even in a slightly deeper playmaking role. Should he join Chelsea, he is expected to compete with rising talent Jamie Gittens for a place in the club's starting XI.
