In a statement released by the club, Bayern's sporting director said: "“We are very pleased that Mathys Tel has extended his contract with FC Bayern.
"He is an important building block for the future of this team, with him we already have the next generation of FC Bayern in our squad.
"Mathys came to Munich as a young player and, at the age of 18, has already gained important experience at the highest level. He will make a lot of exclamation marks – here, at FC Bayern.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Tel was said to have grown frustrated with his limited role at the German giants, leading to talk of a possible exit from the club. It was reported as recently as February that Premier League giants Man United had 'enquired' about the player, although those rumours have now been put to bed after the announcement of his new deal at Bayern.
