Hojlund grew up as a United supporter – and a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo – and is delighted to now be part of the long-term thinking at Old Trafford. He posted on Instagram after making his first appearance: “So proud to make my debut for @manchesterunited the dream became a reality. Unlucky with the result today… but we will bounce back after the international break.”

United, who have taken six points from four games in 2023-24, have two weeks in which to pick the bones out of their loss to Arsenal now the latest international break has arrived. The Red Devils will be back in action on September 16 when playing host to Brighton.
